Client Services – Services for Buyers – Weatherization and Energy Efficiency
Reducing energy use through weatherization and insulation, or the use of new more efficient appliances, is a national priority. There are numerous programs, both public and private, to help home owners and renters reduce energy consumption. These programs may subsidize or pay in full for improvements and energy efficient appliances. Other programs offer tax credits. But, they are all designed to make energy efficiency upgrades affordable.
There are a tremendous number of these programs, at the local and national level, in both the government and private sector. Mission of Peace Counselors are in touch with the agencies that provide these services on a regular basis, and can guide you to the appropriate agencies and programs. They can also assist you with preparing the required documents to access these services.
For Michigan residents, the first agency to approach is the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). WAP is a federally funded program, for low income individuals and families, administered through community service agencies. Improvements which may be funded are:
• Wall Insulation
• Attic Insulation and Ventilation
• Foundation Insulation
• Air Leakage Reduction
• Smoke Detectors
• Dryer Venting
All of these energy saving improvements can be either subsidized or fully paid for through WAP.
Once potential WAP funds have been explored, Mission of Peace can recommend other local funding sources, appropriate to individual circumstances. There are many of these, but most of them are limited to particular items and situations.
Without the assistance of a knowledgeable counselor they can be difficult to find and access. A Mission of Peace Counselor can be an invaluable resource in accessing energy efficiency funds.
Call Mission of Peace and see what you can do to improve the energy efficiency of your home or rental, today.
